Problem

There is a growing trend of people using natural and organic skin care and personal care products. However, not all natural ingredients are beneficial to the human body. Some may even come with negative properties. There is no resource application that helps consumers understand what natural and organic products are suitable and safe for them to use on their bodies.

Goal

  • Find out if people care what goes into making skincare and personal care products and their knowledge of natural and organic ingredients
  • Discover what issues people have when they shop for natural and organic skincare products and identify the users’ needs
  • Generate ideas for an application design based on the research results of users and turn them into a concrete prototype

Interview

  • 20 female participants
  • 4 male participants
  • Age 16 – 78 years old
  • The majority were between age 25 – 45 years old and had professional jobs
  • 5 natural skincare users were chosen for an interview individually by phone for more questions
  • These interviewees were 3 females and 2 males, age 16 – 52 years old

Key insight

  • Care if skin care or personal care products have natural or organic ingredients
  • Look up rating and review online or get recommendation for products but rarely for ingredients
  • Care about the brands that users can trust

Pain points

  • Don’t know much about natural or organic ingredients and what products are best for their skin
  • Natural and organic skin care and personal care products are expensive
  • Difficulties finding natural and organic skincare or personal care products, especially ones that are completely natural or for guys

Ideas are generated based on an analysis from the interviews and surveys. Recommended products, reviews and articles are major ideas to be pursued.
